Checking on the site...

I am leading a canoe trip tomorrow, so I will have a chance to drive by the site on my way to see if the grass has been cut yet. That is my biggest concern right now, the grass. I hope by August 7th the area will be more groomed then it is now...

Follow-up

I am sending out another mass e-mail today b/c I had heard that some people were waiting for another e-mail to come out that said Walking GREEN had planned an actual event...

Neighbors Walking GREEN...

I was walking the dogs this morning and came across a man who was on a walk around the neighborhood, but he had a trash bag and was cleaning up trash as he walked. It was great to see someone actively Walking GREEN on their own. Thank you to that man! I would have said good morning and spoke to him about Walking GREEN; however, I had the dogs as I mentioned and I didn't want them to eat him...

Possible Site Issue.

I drove by the site where the Inaugural GREEN event is going to take place and I was welcomed by grass that was at least 4 feet tall. This could definitely cause issues with my plans. I will check back over the next few weeks, but it did not look like PG County is really stressing over how tall the grass is getting. Possible plan B just in case...

Going public...

I thought my blog was public and could be easily found, but I tried to google my blog and I was unsuccessful in finding my blog. So, I just created a public profile at, http://www.google.com/profiles/WalkingGREEN23. Hopefully this will get the word out more. Next I am going to post my information on my LinkedIn page...

News of GREEN Walkers participating

I received an exciting e-mail from Chesapeake Bay Foundation that they have posted Walking GREEN on there facebook page. You can check it out at, http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/event.php?eid=135353326481040&index=1. I also received word that some of the CBF staff has showed interest in Walking GREEN!...

Getting the word out...

I just found out that my church, St. John's Episcopal in Ellicott City is passing the word along to the Stewardship of Creation, which is the environmental concerns group at St. John's and to some others in the Diocese of Maryland who work on GREEN efforts...Thank you Rev. Nick!...

Walking GREEN T's!

I was on Cafe Press and was fooling around with some T-shirt designs. However, I was thinking that I will have to hold a Walking GREEN T-shirt making extranaganza at some point. I think it would be awesome if I could get some GREEN paint and have people use their creativity in making a WG T of their own. So basically, everyone could bring a white or whatever color t-shirt, step their feet into some GREEN paint and walk GREEN on their shirt!

I know I am getting ahead of myself, but my brain is leaking and I have to put all this somewhere...

Walking GREEN Launches!

Yesterday marks the day when Walking GREEN takes it's first major step towards a Greener future. I added some links I follow on the blog page and a section that features a "Picture of the week." I look forward to some Walking GREEN events, so that I can take some photos of GREEN Walkers in action. The culmination of yesterday was posting my blog page on Facebook and also e-mailing it to my contacts, which included family, friends, and acquaintances. Hopefully the word will start to get out. I am really hoping for a good turn out in August; however, I have always said that GREEN Walkers or no GREEN Walkers...I will still Walk GREEN no matter what...

Walking GREEN is born

I was inspired to create Walking Green by my desire to beautify the roads, woodlands and streams to maintain a clean environment in my little corner of the Earth. I remember the days when I could smell the clean air and feast my eyes on bright green pastures when I stepped outside; however, I fear those days are becoming more and more limited.

For too long now, I have noticed my surroundings become populated with trash. The roads on which I travel, the neighborhood woodlands and streams that I frequently visit on walks with my dogs, and even some local parks have taken on a new look. That look is ugly, disheartening and down right unacceptable. I see plastic bags wrapped around branches, entangling them the way a spider’s web entangles a bug. Grass and flowers are often suffocated by napkins, cigarette ends, pieces of cardboard and fast food trash. Tranquil waters that once flowed down small creek beds and streams now are choked by plastic bottles, aluminum cans and other waste.

I once read a quote that said, “We treat this planet as if we had a spare.” The world has obviously taken on a plethora of proactive techniques to “Save the Planet,” but some individuals have continued to slow down the healing process. Therefore, I’m taking action to do my part.
